Plans for the Year 2024 -- 4/27/2024 Update
Prayer is requested for a safe and successful return to Europe to record new production video in seven countries. Unfortunately (or providentially), my original plans had to be postponed a few months due to unforeseen circumstances. But new videos will continue to be released. We have just uploaded "Obscure Christian History of the Nicene Creed." But we are especially excited about the reception that came from our video "Obscure Christian History of Ephesus". This video received about 90,000 views in its first month and increased our Subscribers count by about 1500 to a total of more than 4,200. These new videos are uploaded onto the Videoparables channel on Youtube, and are also linked in the Short Videos page on this website.
"Uncertainty" seems to be the key word describing this coming year. Of course, it exists at all times. We never know what might happen tomorrow, and we have no control over time and events. All we can do is make plans and preparations for what we would like to see happen. But this coming year seems more unpredictable than usual. Israel is being attacked on multiple fronts, both militarily and politically. So plans that I had previously made are in flux. As I write this, flights from the U.S. to Turkey are unavailable because the U.S. is helping defend Israel, and Turkey is siding with the Palestinians. Nevertheless, I am still weighing option on when and where to go next.
My responsibilities in settling my brother Abel's estate took about a year to complete, and I am looking for the right time to return to Europe. My wife and I are hoping to return to Italy and finish the trip that had barely started when the Covid pandemic struck in full force. Italy and Switzerland locked down, and we had to change flights to get us out of Europe before we were trapped there. It was a memorable trip, but for the wrong reasons. This time we hope for better results. Also I am looking at the possibility of following the Martin Luther historical sites in Germany. And whatever else God has in mind.
Fortunately, I had plenty of footage to edit when I got back to the U.S., and I was able to upload seven new videos in 2023. Thank you all who have continued to follow my discovery of Obscure Christian History.

Spring Brings Renewal -- 5/5/2023
Today I uploaded yet another video from my travel in Europe. This one is about the historic walled city of Dubrovnik in Croatia. Post-production work has been slow due to the many other responsibilities I am encountering due to my brother's death in September, but I hope to eventually return to my enjoyable work in Europe as I finish my work as executor. Please pray that the details are completed properly. In the mean time, I will continue to complete past projects for you enjoyment.

Back in the U.S. -- 9/10/2022

A Month in Greece with My Wife Tess -- 7/2/2022
My wife and I will be traveling through Greece this summer for a month. After meeting Tess in Athens, we will spend a week in beach resort town of Paralia Katerinis, then we will travel further up the coast to Thessaloniki, Kavala (ancient Neapolis), Philippi, and finally down to the elevated monasteries of Meteora. Look for a short travel series based on our adventures.

Searching for New Opportunities - 5/24/2021
As the Coronavirus pandemic appears to be subsiding in the United States and other places in the world, it is time to consider new travels. There will certainly be difficulties along the way, but Mark is preparing for an exploratory trip to Greece where he will search out ministry and video opportunities.
New Video Series Planned - 5/24/2021
Mark has begun production on a new video series that would teach other Christians how to produce video content. He has reserved the domain ChristianVideoProductionHub.com and has already produced 9 videos between 3-6 minutes each. He has planned for more than 200 titles overall, but will not begin the video channel or the new website until he has at least 60 episodes completed and uploaded.

Dubbing Adaptation - 9/24/2020
Have you ever wondered how those foreign-language movies and television programs get made into English? The German, Italian, Japanese, or Chinese characters all seem to be speaking English, and their lip movements seem to match their dialog. What you have actually seen is the work of a dubbing studio. Actors record the words in English to sync with the lips of the screen actors' original foreign language. But they can only do this if they have a well-written adaptation script. This is the work of the Dubbing Script Adapter who sits in front of a screen watching the scene over and over again until he/she finds the perfect words to match the lip movements and still give the sense of the scene. Not an easy task!
I am proud to mention that I have just completed a course on Dubbing Adaptation under the instruction of one of the top adapters in the world, Greg Snegoff. Not only have I added a new skill to my resume', but I have opened a new door for freelance work during this time of worldwide lockdowns. Praise God!

"RIDING THE DRAGON: Gambling Addiction" -- Update 10/17/2019
The video is now uploaded in five shorter segments for those who do not have an hour to spend in one sitting. It is expecially hoped that people will watch the final segment (#5) where former gambling addicts in China give their testimony of how they were freed from bondage.
It took 7 years, from the time the first video shots were taken in Macau, to bring this project to completion. The final pieces of the puzzle did not fall into place until 2 years ago, and then there were other projects to finish before the editing could begin. We are pleased to announce that this documentary is finally uploaded and available for viewing on Youtube. Thanksgiving Day's Christian Origin -- 11/20/2016
This new short documentary now has three versions. The first is a version (18 minutes) meant to be shown in any bilingual church or gathering in any language. Each segment of narration in English is followed with continuing music and visuals for enough time to allow a speaker to translate the narration into any other language (Spanish, German, Filipino, etc.). You can view the video on this website's Movies and Docs page, or directly on Youtube (videoparables channel) for download and showing on church screens.
A second shorter (English-language-only) version (13 minutes) is also available. Its Youtube title is "Thanksgiving Holiday Origin".
The third version (English with Chinese subtitles) is by the same title. It was recently screened at a Mandarin Baptist Church and was highly praised.

Apostle Paul Lesson #12: -- 6/13/2015
The twelfth video lesson in the "Life and Ministry of the Apostle Paul" is now on Youtube and on the Teaching Videos page of this website. We follow Paul's third missionary journey from Antioch through Asia to Ephesus, where he planted a church and remained for two years teaching. God brought about many miracles through Paul during his time there, and the gospel spread far and wide. After revisiting the churches of Macedonia and Greece, he returned with representatives and a collection of money for the church in Jerusalem. Throughout his return to Jerusalem, he was warned by the Holy Spirit and Christian prophets along the way that bonds and hardships awaited him.
Apostle Paul Lesson #10 -- 4/6/2015
Visit our Teaching Videos page. We have just added Lesson #10 in the "Life and Ministry of the Apostle Paul" series. Lesson #9 is entitled "Statue to an Unknown God", as we continue with Paul on his third missionary journey. After leaving Philippi, Paul and his companions preached in Thessalonica, but a mob chased them from the city. They escaped to Berea and found a much better reception from the noble people of this Macedonian city. Paul ventured alone from there to Athens, where he was grieved in his spirit to find the city completely given to idolatry. He preached the gospel, but was told to come to the Areopagus where the Greek philosophers wanted to judge his doctrine. Paul's message was brief but powerful. You will be blessed by watching this video, and all the videos in this series.
Lessons 11-12 have already been recorded. The edited versions will be announced on this website as they are completed and uploaded to Youtube.
Another Step Forward -- 8/18/2014
We have just conducted another interview which moves forward the Altar of Heaven documentary. An interview was conducted with a Dr. Wilfred Chung of Truth Theological Seminary. His answers were given in Mandarin language concerning the Bible's perspective on such topics as the attributes of God, the flood of Noah and the dispersion that followed, and the Apostle Paul's message to the Athenian philosophers (Acts 17). His answers are currently being translated into English for editing purposes. This documentary is meant to show that Shang Di, who was worshiped in China for thousands of years, is the same Almighty Creator God of the Bible, but the Chinese people have lost sight of this truth.

Hong Kong, Macau, and Thailand -- 11/25/2013
Mark and Tess Yerkes have just completed a ten-week visit to these three countries. The purpose was primarily to celebrate their ten-year wedding anniversary, but Mark was also able to collect a great deal of video footage for present and future documentary projects, including three expert interviews. For the "Sacred Meaning of China's Altar of Heaven" project, psychiatrist Dr. Stanley Wang spoke on the cultural and psychological effect of forgetting one's religious origin. He also spoke on gambling addiction for another project on that subject. A former Triad member of Macau also spoke for the gambling project. Having seen, and facilitated, much of the grief experienced by addicted gamblers, he has been thoroughly equipped through his relationship with Jesus Christ, to warn others and minister to suffering in Macau's prison.
The Apostle Paul -- 11/25/2013 update
During his Southeast Asian trip, Mark was also able to complete the study outlines and scripts for four more Apostle Paul lessons. There is still rewriting required before actually shooting the lessons, but we can expect these lessons to be completed sometime early in 2014.
The Sacred Meaning of China's Altar of Heaven - 6/27/2013
A new project is also currently in production. If you ask most people what the first religion of China was, they will probably tell you something like Buddhism, or Confucianism, or Taoism, but these are actually relatively recent religions. The earliest Chinese writings of history tell us that as early as 2300 B.C. (more than 4200 years ago) the first emperor and his people worshiped Shang Di (the Supreme God), and this one sovereign Creator of heaven and earth and all that is in them possessed all the same attributes as the Almighty God we know from the Holy Scriptures of Judaism and Christianity. The worship of this God included a covenant blood sacrifice that was made by the Emperor on behalf of his people and nation, and this annual sacrifice was made continually until the end of imperial rule in 1911 A.D. Today, one of the most visited tourist attraction in Beijing is the Temple of Heaven complex, which is within walking distance of the Forbidden City. This documentary reveals the true origins of religion in China, and presents the case that the God of the Bible is the God of China.
We have completed the 4-minute introduction promo video. Prayer is definitely needed for this project. The truth is vital to billions of people.
Tess Yerkes Pursues Masters Degree -- 6/27/2013
Tess has recently enrolled in a program to acquire her masters degree in Special Education. It is exciting for us to see how God is preparing her for great service in the future.
"Chiang Mai Syndrome" Added to YouTube -- 6/27/2013
This mock-umentary (mock documentary) was produced in Chiang Mai, Thailand, before we established the ministry of Videoparables. It is a hilarious movie about a fat American man who abandons his previous life in order to become a pedicab driver. No, this is not a "Christian" video, but it is definitely funny and wholesome entertainment.
The Fundamentals of Christianity -- 10/29/2012
Taping and interviews have been completed at the Messianic church mentioned below, as reported in September: We have commenced production of a new documentary asking the questions: "What are the criteria for being a Christian or a Christian church?" and "Where should we draw the line between acceptable beliefs and worship and fellowship versus unacceptable?" To explore this topic, we will visit three churches: A Messianic congregation (about half Jewish and half Gentile members), a Baptist congregation, and an African-American congregation. This project is expected to take about two years to complete.
Powerful New Documentary Completed -- 8/28/2012
This past June Mark was in Las Vegas, Nevada, for a reunion with one of his cousins from Florida. While there, he joined his long-time friend Kleg Seth at a Media Fellowship International luncheon. Kleg began telling the story of Tommie Scott, whom he had led to the Lord at a jail Bible study three years prior. When Kleg expressed his opinion that Tommie's story should be made into a video, Mark simply asked, "Why don't we produce it?" Dale Davidson of KEEN-17 TV, a local Christian cable channel was present at the luncheon and expressed his support, as did other luncheon attendees.

Tess Graduates -- 5/9/2012
On March 29, Tess Yerkes received her second college degree. She now possesses a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Kalos Bible College to go along with her Bachelor of Theology Degree from Metropolitan Bible Baptist. Now that the governmental requirements have been fulfilled, she will begin teaching full-time at Grace Baptist Academy this June.
Palawan and Corregidor -- 5/9/2012
As a reward for her diligence in completing her college degree, Mark took Tess on a working vacation trip to Palawan Island prior to her graduation ceremonies. They visited the major tourist sites of Palawan, including the Underground River of Sablan, which is listed as one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
They also took a one-day tour of Corregidor. This was also a working trip, as Mark used the opportunity to videotape the World War 2 ruins and cannons for use in an upcoming project about Liberty and Freedom.
The True Vine -- 2/2/12
This 25-minute teaching tape, utilizing animated photography and video ,much of which was taped at vineyards in California in 2011, explains the parable of the True Vine in the Gospel of John, chapter 15. Preaching Tour of Manila-- 2/2/12
Please pray for Mark as he goes to Manila for eight days of ministry between February 18-26. He is already scheduled to preach seven times during that period, including an evangelistic outreach on Sunday the 19th and another on Tuesday the 22nd. In addition there will be opportunities to meet many pastors and visit a new mission church in Cavite. Pray for the help of the Holy Spirit in bringing forth the Gospel. Pray even now that hearts will be prepared to receive Christ.
Armed Gunman Apprehended-- 8/19/11
The past couple of weeks were troubling for Mark and Tess. Four armed gunmen began committing crimes in their subdivision. On a Friday night, they surrounded the truck of one of the neighbors in the subdivision. When he drove away to escape, they shot up the truck and sent him to the hospital with a bullet injury. The next night the four committed a home-invasion robbery of a house directly above the Videoparables studio. Again, many shots were fired. The good news is that some of the subdivision residents fired back at them and hit one of them in the leg. He was dropped off at a local hospital by the other gunmen, where the Baguio police were able to arrest him. The criminals were videotaped on closed-circuit television at the house they robbed, and it is our hope that the others will also eventually be captured.
Mark and Tess wish to express their gratitude to God and also to all of you who prayed on their behalf. It was especially difficult for Mark being away during such a troubling time, but God is always in control. These events have already brought positive changes to the subdivision: seven new street lights are being added, and the police are putting an outpost in the community. Praise God!

Both versions of the documentary can also be viewed from this website: firstreligionofchina.com The website is designed, like the documentary, to present salvation through Jesus Christ to the Chinese people.
Apostle Paul Lesson #12: -- 6/13/2015
The twelfth video lesson in the "Life and Ministry of the Apostle Paul" is now on Youtube and on the Teaching Videos page of this website. We follow Paul's third missionary journey from Antioch through Asia to Ephesus, where he planted a church and remained for two years teaching. God brought about many miracles through Paul during his time there, and the gospel spread far and wide. After revisiting the churches of Macedonia and Greece, he returned with representatives and a collection of money for the church in Jerusalem. Throughout his return to Jerusalem, he was warned by the Holy Spirit and Christian prophets along the way that bonds and hardships awaited him.
Apostle Paul Lesson #10 -- 4/6/2015
Visit our Teaching Videos page. We have just added Lesson #10 in the "Life and Ministry of the Apostle Paul" series. Lesson #9 is entitled "Statue to an Unknown God", as we continue with Paul on his third missionary journey. After leaving Philippi, Paul and his companions preached in Thessalonica, but a mob chased them from the city. They escaped to Berea and found a much better reception from the noble people of this Macedonian city. Paul ventured alone from there to Athens, where he was grieved in his spirit to find the city completely given to idolatry. He preached the gospel, but was told to come to the Areopagus where the Greek philosophers wanted to judge his doctrine. Paul's message was brief but powerful. You will be blessed by watching this video, and all the videos in this series.
Lessons 11-12 have already been recorded. The edited versions will be announced on this website as they are completed and uploaded to Youtube.
Another Step Forward -- 8/18/2014
We have just conducted another interview which moves forward the Altar of Heaven documentary. An interview was conducted with a Dr. Wilfred Chung of Truth Theological Seminary. His answers were given in Mandarin language concerning the Bible's perspective on such topics as the attributes of God, the flood of Noah and the dispersion that followed, and the Apostle Paul's message to the Athenian philosophers (Acts 17). His answers are currently being translated into English for editing purposes. This documentary is meant to show that Shang Di, who was worshiped in China for thousands of years, is the same Almighty Creator God of the Bible, but the Chinese people have lost sight of this truth.

Hong Kong, Macau, and Thailand -- 11/25/2013
Mark and Tess Yerkes have just completed a ten-week visit to these three countries. The purpose was primarily to celebrate their ten-year wedding anniversary, but Mark was also able to collect a great deal of video footage for present and future documentary projects, including three expert interviews. For the "Sacred Meaning of China's Altar of Heaven" project, psychiatrist Dr. Stanley Wang spoke on the cultural and psychological effect of forgetting one's religious origin. He also spoke on gambling addiction for another project on that subject. A former Triad member of Macau also spoke for the gambling project. Having seen, and facilitated, much of the grief experienced by addicted gamblers, he has been thoroughly equipped through his relationship with Jesus Christ, to warn others and minister to suffering in Macau's prison.
The Apostle Paul -- 11/25/2013 update
During his Southeast Asian trip, Mark was also able to complete the study outlines and scripts for four more Apostle Paul lessons. There is still rewriting required before actually shooting the lessons, but we can expect these lessons to be completed sometime early in 2014.
The Sacred Meaning of China's Altar of Heaven - 6/27/2013
A new project is also currently in production. If you ask most people what the first religion of China was, they will probably tell you something like Buddhism, or Confucianism, or Taoism, but these are actually relatively recent religions. The earliest Chinese writings of history tell us that as early as 2300 B.C. (more than 4200 years ago) the first emperor and his people worshiped Shang Di (the Supreme God), and this one sovereign Creator of heaven and earth and all that is in them possessed all the same attributes as the Almighty God we know from the Holy Scriptures of Judaism and Christianity. The worship of this God included a covenant blood sacrifice that was made by the Emperor on behalf of his people and nation, and this annual sacrifice was made continually until the end of imperial rule in 1911 A.D. Today, one of the most visited tourist attraction in Beijing is the Temple of Heaven complex, which is within walking distance of the Forbidden City. This documentary reveals the true origins of religion in China, and presents the case that the God of the Bible is the God of China.
We have completed the 4-minute introduction promo video. Prayer is definitely needed for this project. The truth is vital to billions of people.
Tess Yerkes Pursues Masters Degree -- 6/27/2013
Tess has recently enrolled in a program to acquire her masters degree in Special Education. It is exciting for us to see how God is preparing her for great service in the future.
"Chiang Mai Syndrome" Added to YouTube -- 6/27/2013
This mock-umentary (mock documentary) was produced in Chiang Mai, Thailand, before we established the ministry of Videoparables. It is a hilarious movie about a fat American man who abandons his previous life in order to become a pedicab driver. No, this is not a "Christian" video, but it is definitely funny and wholesome entertainment.
The Fundamentals of Christianity -- 10/29/2012
Taping and interviews have been completed at the Messianic church mentioned below, as reported in September: We have commenced production of a new documentary asking the questions: "What are the criteria for being a Christian or a Christian church?" and "Where should we draw the line between acceptable beliefs and worship and fellowship versus unacceptable?" To explore this topic, we will visit three churches: A Messianic congregation (about half Jewish and half Gentile members), a Baptist congregation, and an African-American congregation. This project is expected to take about two years to complete.
Powerful New Documentary Completed -- 8/28/2012
This past June Mark was in Las Vegas, Nevada, for a reunion with one of his cousins from Florida. While there, he joined his long-time friend Kleg Seth at a Media Fellowship International luncheon. Kleg began telling the story of Tommie Scott, whom he had led to the Lord at a jail Bible study three years prior. When Kleg expressed his opinion that Tommie's story should be made into a video, Mark simply asked, "Why don't we produce it?" Dale Davidson of KEEN-17 TV, a local Christian cable channel was present at the luncheon and expressed his support, as did other luncheon attendees.

Tess Graduates -- 5/9/2012
On March 29, Tess Yerkes received her second college degree. She now possesses a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Kalos Bible College to go along with her Bachelor of Theology Degree from Metropolitan Bible Baptist. Now that the governmental requirements have been fulfilled, she will begin teaching full-time at Grace Baptist Academy this June.
Palawan and Corregidor -- 5/9/2012
As a reward for her diligence in completing her college degree, Mark took Tess on a working vacation trip to Palawan Island prior to her graduation ceremonies. They visited the major tourist sites of Palawan, including the Underground River of Sablan, which is listed as one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
They also took a one-day tour of Corregidor. This was also a working trip, as Mark used the opportunity to videotape the World War 2 ruins and cannons for use in an upcoming project about Liberty and Freedom.
The True Vine -- 2/2/12
This 25-minute teaching tape, utilizing animated photography and video ,much of which was taped at vineyards in California in 2011, explains the parable of the True Vine in the Gospel of John, chapter 15. We can hardly wait to start giving the DVD's away. This Bible study lesson can be found on the TEACHING VIDEOS page of this website.
Preaching Tour of Manila-- 2/2/12
Please pray for Mark as he goes to Manila for eight days of ministry between February 18-26. He is already scheduled to preach seven times during that period, including an evangelistic outreach on Sunday the 19th and another on Tuesday the 22nd. In addition there will be opportunities to meet many pastors and visit a new mission church in Cavite. Pray for the help of the Holy Spirit in bringing forth the Gospel. Pray even now that hearts will be prepared to receive Christ.
Armed Gunman Apprehended-- 8/19/11
The past couple of weeks were troubling for Mark and Tess. Four armed gunmen began committing crimes in their subdivision. On a Friday night, they surrounded the truck of one of the neighbors in the subdivision. When he drove away to escape, they shot up the truck and sent him to the hospital with a bullet injury. The next night the four committed a home-invasion robbery of a house directly above the Videoparables studio. Again, many shots were fired. The good news is that some of the subdivision residents fired back at them and hit one of them in the leg. He was dropped off at a local hospital by the other gunmen, where the Baguio police were able to arrest him. The criminals were videotaped on closed-circuit television at the house they robbed, and it is our hope that the others will also eventually be captured.
Mark and Tess wish to express their gratitude to God and also to all of you who prayed on their behalf. It was especially difficult for Mark being away during such a troubling time, but God is always in control. These events have already brought positive changes to the subdivision: seven new street lights are being added, and the police are putting an outpost in the community. Praise God!
Three Videos on Intelligent Design -- 8/9/11
You will notice a new page added to the website: Movies & Docs. This page will be for our videos (and video segments) that are longer than nine minutes in length. "The Unmerciful Servant" video has been moved to this page, and we have uploaded our documentary series on Intelligent Design. They are: "The Universe: A Masterpiece of Beauty and Order"; "Our Unique Planet"; and "The Amazing Tarsier". Each of these three videos are in English or Tagalog-language versions.
Our Building Project

Praise God that we were able to finish construction of the new studio/multi-purpose room on our property. We started building at the beginning of November 2010 (the end of rainy season) and completed the project in time for our dedication ceremony on May 14, 2011 (at the beginning of rainy season). A lot of work was done to get the interior just right. We have acoustic treatment and ten-foot curtains that enclose the interior, a fifteen-foot-high ceiling, colored-glass windows, and even lighting bars that can be raised and lowered from ceiling to floor. But the most important element is that there is enough floor space to accommodate equipment and crew, or 25-30 chairs for seminars and Bible studies. Our May 14 dedication ceremony came on a night with a downpour of rain, but we had a great time and stayed perfectly dry. Pastor Herb Hayes of Grace Baptist Church spoke about the meaning of dedication, and, truly, this building belongs to God. Also, Dorothy Yerkes was honored with a short video about her life as we remembered her and gave thanks for the resources she left behind when she went to be with the Lord. Church Planted in Catanduanes

The photo here took place in Magnesia del Sur on the island of Catanduanes. The village is located about a thirty-minutes drive from the town of Virac. The barangay next to this one (Magnesia del Norte) has an old Catholic church, but there was no evangelical presence here until Palm Sunday of 2011. Mark and Tess spent a week here. Mark taught evangelism at Pastor Frank Arcilla's Bible Christian Baptist Church in Virac for three consecutive nights before the volunteers of the congregation began their outreach. Friday and Saturday during daylight, the volunteers conducted visitation and held Bible classes and games for the children - likewise on Saturday. On Friday night, Mark showed the three Creation videos ("Our Unique Planet"; "The Universe: a Masterpiece of Beauty and Order"; and "The Amazing Tarsier") followed by a brief message and invitation to accept God's gift of salvation. The next night more Videoparable movies were shown, along with music and testimonies, and the first worship service was held the next afternoon. God is so good! Let us continue in prayer for this infant church, led by Franklin Arcilla (Ptr. Frank's son). Indeed, most of the attenders are youth and young adults.
